How to Stop Your Gazebo Sides from Flapping in the Wind
One big concern for gazebo owners when they use sidewalls on their pop-up gazebo is that no matter how hard they try, or how well they weigh their tent down, the sidewalls suffer from continually billowing and flapping in windy conditions.
It happens to the best of us, if we don't take preventative measures to reduce the flap. Fortunately, Gala Tent has you covered. Here's our quick guide to the products and measures you can use to stop your gazebo sides from flapping in the wind.
Use Sidewall Pegs
A simple but effective, and low cost method to reduce sidewall flapping, particularly if you're on soft-standing ground. Gala Shade Gazebo sidewalls have a PVC skirt attached at the bottom, which is primarily to help rainwater to drain away from the gazebo, instead of pooling around the tent and quite often spilling in.
Price from: £3.99These sidewall skirts also have a very clever series of eyelets punched into them, and you can use purpose-made sidewall pegs to pull the walls taut, and effectively reducing the give that your walls have in them.
Whilst they should never be used on their own to anchor a gazebo down, they also provide a level of additional pull-down and assist with keeping your gazebo standing firm in adverse weather.
Use Gazebo Ground Bars
The most effective method of keeping your gazebo sides taut in windy conditions, and with the added benefit of providing an increased structural stability, gazebo ground bars have been the saviour of many a customer using a gazebo in the wind.
Price from: £79.99Each ground bar kit is supplied with the straight/corner clamps to fix each bar from one leg to the next, and each bar runs through a pocket that's stitched into each wall as standard (the pocket does not feature in the door panels). By fixing to the structure and effectively pegging the walls down, you have massively reduced the flapping of your walls in windy conditions, and protected the people and products inside.
The added benefit of ground bars is that they keep each of your legs fixed to the next, which helps them to remain at a 90 degree angle, and therefore reduce the strain and stress on the legs and roof section.
Use weights or tie downs
Sold in pairs, these heavy duty kits help to keep a gazebo firmly grounded. They're for use on soft ground, so if you're on hard ground then you may look to switch to weights.
Price from: £14.99One of the most common things that can cause movement of the gazebo sides in windy conditions is that the gazebo itself is not anchored effectively. A good quality gazebo, such as the Gala Shade Pro 50, is absolutely a robust and stable structure, but even that can see some movement by gusts of wind. If your tent is sliding all over the place then of course, your sides will see some flapping.
Use a minimum of one effective weight or tie-down per leg to ensure your gazebo is fixed firm, and then apply the other measures in ground bars and sidewall pegs to ensure you have the proudest tent at the event.
Because gazebos use a canvas-like material in the PVC-coated polyester of the covers, there will always be a risk of seeing the sides flapping in windy conditions, and therefore it is imperative that you use extra measures to retain a smooth image for your tent, and protect the people and products inside it. Ground bars, sidewall pegs and effective anchoring of your gazebo will ensure you're doing everything you can to reduce it.
