MY GAZEBO?

More ways to use weights to anchor your gazebo

As specialist suppliers of party tents, heavy duty marquees and high quality pop-up gazebos for over twenty years, we here at Gala Tent are well placed to understand what kinds of anchorage work best in which situation, and for which tent. We have developed and refined our range over two decades, and have a complete set of effective gazebo weights and anchor systems available to buy with next working day delivery.

It doesn’t matter which gazebo you have, or how heavy it is, when you’re using it outdoors. All pop-up gazebos are susceptible to being scooped up by a gust of wind. It doesn’t matter whether you have the heaviest gazebo ever designed, it only takes a single hard gust to turn it into a dangerous kite, so it is recommended that you use something to keep it anchored to the ground.

Some people use what they have, for example motorsport professionals may use spare wheels and tyres to keep their awning fixed. Construction workers may strap the work tent to a pallet of bricks. It doesn’t matter what you use to anchor your gazebo down, the important thing is that you do it at all.

We have put together a simple guide, which offers advice on the kinds of options available, some available to buy from Gala Tent with free next day delivery, and others an industrial grade special order item that we can source for you upon request. We hope this guide will help you decide the best method of weighing your own gazebo down.

13KG CAST IRON GAZEBO WEIGHTS

The most popular way to anchor your gazebo is the cast iron weight. Subtle and effective, these are a fantastic addition to any pop-up gazebo, to keep them grounded in windy conditions, and are equally suited to domestic use as they are commercial. The weights incorporate moulded interlocking studs, so that they can be stacked neatly on top of one another to increase the weight at each point safely. They are designed with a carry handle in each for ease of transporting, and have small holes so that you can supplement the anchor with a peg into soft ground. Finally, they have a groove cut into each iron disc, to allow them to fit neatly around the leg of any pop-up gazebo for sale at Gala Tent. Each weight adds 13kg of stability and they are sold in pairs. The absolute minimum we recommend of these items is one weight per leg, but two would be optimum.

Sand Bag Weights

13.5KG SAND BAG GAZEBO WEIGHTS

Weighted Gazebo Sandbags are an easy to transport gazebo weight solution. Two heavy duty, waterproof polyester cylinders which can be filled with sand, or gravel, and then zipped closed, they are designed to wrap around the gazebo leg (or ground bar) and are equally suitable for hard or soft standing surfaces. Each sandbag, when filled, has a gross weight of 13.5kg, which provides a decent anchorage per leg. They are not designed for stacking, but each bag has a loop to enable you to peg it into soft ground for extra support. Whilst not strictly the most effective method of providing anchorage your gazebo with Gala Tent, it is certainly the most cost effective, and is recommended for mild days. These are sold in pairs.

50KG WATER FILLED GAZEBO WEIGHTS

The 50kg PVC gazebo weights were developed for our motorsport brand, Gala Performance, as motor racing teams need to travel light but also need extreme weights to anchor their professional awnings. This is a great option, lightweight, easy to transport, just fill with water and tie one to each leg, your gazebo is anchored, job done. At the end of the event, simply find somewhere safe to drain the water away and you can once again travel with something that weighs less than a kilo. They are sold singular, and we recommend at two per tent as a minimum. One weight per corner of the gazebo would be optimum, providing 200kg of weight to your tent.

Concrete Block Weights

40KG CONCRETE BLOCK GAZEBO WEIGHT

This type of gazebo weight is incredibly versatile, offering extreme anchorage in any situation. They are generally designed for use on hard ground where ground anchors and pegs cannot be used but the structure requires major confidence against the elements.

They can be used on any structure, with weights ranging from 50kg – 3000kg. These are used widely throughout the event industry, as they are immensely effective for holding down the largest kinds of tent. They are a special order item, so if you’re in the market for something extra heavy-duty, give the team a call to discuss your needs and we’ll price you up.

220L PLASTIC BLUE UN APPROVED TIGHTHEAD DRUM

These Drums are both food grade certified and UN approved meaning it has many different applications such as transporting and storing foodstuffs, pastes, chemicals, soaps, detergents, sanitisers and powders making it ideal for both domestic and commercial use. So handy for other storage uses as well, maybe double up on sanitiser, drinking water or even beer! - just add a tap. Water Barrel Weights

1000 LITRE WATER FILLED GAZEBO WEIGHTS

1000 litre, or 220 gallons, is quite an extreme way of anchoring a gazebo down, and not something you’ll see very often anchoring a 3m x 3m gazebo, but it is also super effective in doing its job. They are sometimes adopted by marquee hire companies when erecting a structure that they intend to leave up for a long period of time, and trust it to withstand whatever the Great British Weather throws at it.

So, if you were leaving the gazebo erected for a long period of time or exposed to a very open space in adverse weather conditions this would be an option to consider, but we think there are probably alternative, less extreme ways of achieving it. That said, this would also be very attractive and make an ideal advertisement space if you were to cover it with a bespoke printed wrapping, which we can supply. This is a special order item, so please get in touch with the team if you’re thinking of adding one to your gazebo.

These are just some of the types of gazebo weight you can use to anchor your gazebo down safely, all of them suitable for hard or soft ground, but we know that anything heavy can do the trick. It’s our motto when it comes to gazebo weights; there’s no such thing as too much anchorage. If you think it might need an extra weight, or to be strapped to something that’s fixed down, it probably does.

If you’re not sure which weight would suit your gazebo then please give the team a call on 01709 242454, start a Live Chat, or why not drop us an email here and we’ll be happy to help.
