Premium Quality PVC Marquees - A Deep Dive
The framework of this type of marquee from Gala Tent uses a white powder-coated steel, which is remarkable hard wearing. This steel is included in most aspects of the frame, from the industry-high roof section, which ensures total safety, to the legs and down to the detachable footplates and ground bars. Every aspect of this frame is manufactured with longevity in mind.
Let's take a minute here to contrast the framework of the Gala Tent marquee with that of an alternative supplier which purports to supply equal or greater quality marquees to Gala Tent, at a fraction of the price.
We have a clean, white pole from the Gala Tent, and a naked-metal galvanised, zinc-coated pole from an alternative supplier.
First, we note that the weight of the competitor pole is much lighter than the Gala Tent pole.
The reason for this is that the Gala Tent framework uses 1.2mm gauge materials, versus less than 0.8mm in the competitor.
Of course, 0.4mm might not sound like a lot, but it is the difference between a marquee frame standing firm in adverse weather, and buckling over the heads of your guests or customers.
Our man was unable to bend the Gala Tent marquee pole without risking personal injury, but was able to bend the alternative supplier marquee leg in several places, with ease.
Be mindful when shopping for a marquee that you’re not taken in by similar visuals and a cheaper price, what lies beneath is cheaper for many reasons, and can be very dangerous.
PVC Marquee Covers
Now, let’s look at the material used in this marquee’s covers. This is elite quality 650gsm wipe-clean PVC, from the sides to the ends to the vast heavyweight roof canopy overhead. It’s reinforced material to ensure tears are minimal, and the overhanging pelmet enables water to run off from the top when it’s raining.
Add that to the skirt that runs along the bottom of every side or end panel, and you’re getting a very dry experience within your Gala Tent PVC marquee.
Whilst cheaper and lower quality marquees may use zips to connect sides together, the PVC does not.
Instead, the PVC uses a hard-wearing Velcro to connect one piece to the next, and then a robust Dutch Lacing system to effectively lace up and tighten the connection to both aid wind resistance and internal warmth.
Each end wall of the marquee is designed to be an entry and exit point, and comes with not one, or two, but 3 options for door size. This is on both ends, providing a safe pathway through your marquee. Each of the sidewalls comes with a privacy blind built in, which enables you to let the full daylight into your tent, and then close it up for privacy as the night draws in.
Marquee Ground Bars: A stabilising essential
There is an optional extra that we strongly recommend, which is the set of ground bars. A ground bar is a pole which fixes one leg of the marquee to the next, effectively keeping the legs at a 90 degree angle, which in turn reduces the stresses and strains placed upon the marquee joints by adverse weather. They’re a simple construction, but very effective. For health and safety, if you’re having the ground bars across the entry points, we also supply this high vis ground bar access ramps, which will help to avoid trips, and facilitate disabled access at the same time.
The PVC marquee is available in sizes from 3m x 2m, which will accommodate between 5 and 10 people, and 6m x 12m which will cover more than 100 people.
The 6m x 12m PVC marquee is one of the biggest standalone structures that’s available to buy with free next working day delivery from Gala Tent, but it is possible to go even larger with the use of gutter kits, which enable you to connect multiple marquees together to create longer or wider covered areas, and cover hundreds more guests.
